A Guide to Home Water Purifiers and Filters

Home water purifiers and filters are a big industry in the US. The E.P.A stated that our water supplies have over 2300 chemicals and toxins that can cause cancer and other health problems.

Americans have seen reports in newspapers and on television. Many have taken action and installed home water purifiers and filters in their homes and businesses, hoping to make their water supply safer to drink.

Some have chosen to drink bottled water, believing that it is safer to drink, but many studies show that most are no better than our own tap water.

In fact, the bottled water industry is unregulated. And also over priced. 95% of the cost is in the bottle, label and packaging. All those bottles in our landfills aren't good for the environment. And as mentioned before, no better for us than water from our tap.

This brings us to the subject of home water purifiers and filters. Which ones work the best. What price range.?

I have taken it upon myself to do some research on the various products available to the everyday consumer. I have tried to evaluate them in terms of cost and how good the quality of the water is after filtration.

Cheaper models like the Water Pitcher type make the water taste better by removing Chlorine and Lead, but appear to lack in removing a lot of the other bad things that are in our water. The same goes for the some of the types that attach to your faucet. And they can actually cost more to use, because of the expensive filters that need to be replaced regularly, so they keep doing what they are intended for..........Filtering your water.

The other side of the coin is the Reverse Osmosis home water purifiers and filters. Their end product is distilled water. Oh, it does what it is intended to do. It filters out virtually everything, including the good things like trace minerals, which our bodies need. We pay a lot of money in supplements each year to be sure that our bodies get enough of these minerals. Then we use reverse osmosis and remove it form our water supply. Does that make sense?

You can even purchase Whole House units that filter every ounce of water that we use in our homes.

The initial cost can run a few thousand dollars. In my comparisons, I found that the annual cost per gallon of use can be quite high also. In comparison, the benefit may not outweigh the initial cost to have one installed in your home.

What I have found, is that you get the most bang for your buck from multistage home water purifiers and filters. Some go under your sink, while others attach at your faucet. They must have a combination of carbon filtration, along with ion exchange and sub micron filtration, to do the job we need them to do.

These types of home water purifiers and filters take out chlorine, lead, prescription drugs, pharmaceuticals, VOC's, MTBE cysts (chlorine resistant parasites), but leave in the natural trace minerals that our bodies need. These product also cost less to use than alot of their competitors, sometimes less than 10 cents per gallon.

Now that you know this, I hope you will be able to make an educated decision as to what home water purifiers and filters will be right for you!
