Water Sediment Filter

Turbidity, or cloudiness of water, is often a sign of sedimentary build up in our water supply. This happens when the ground around our water is stirred up and the water is affected by the upheaval. An ultra-filtration is a great water sediment filter. This method passes water through an ultrafilter which acts like a molecular sieve.  The filter takes away dissolved molecules according to their size.  It is efficient in taking away  many particles, microorganisms and sediments exceeding the rated size of the molecular sieve. This method also gives very high quality water and uses less energy.

 

Reverse Osmosis is a nearly perfect water sediment filter. Reverse osmosis uses hydraulic pressure placed on the water to act against the osmotic pressure naturally occurring in the water.  Purified water is then collected on the lower part of the membrane. This type of filtration produces water that is purified, containing no salts, sugars, ions or the molecules that had been dissolved before filtration. While all of the sediments are removed,  the water will not have the pleasant tastes of other types of filtration.

 

Similar to reverse osmosis, distillation provides and excellent water sediment filter. Distillation devices heat water to a boiling point where it vaporizes.  The vapor is condensed and stored after it is collected.  Distillation is beneficial since it takes away a wide range of sediments that are too heavy to boil off with the water. However a big disadvantage with distillation is that some harmful chemicals such as chlorine are vaporized with the water and are not filtered out of the system.
